Bites: Some species of mites and ticks can bite humans, causing localized irritation, itching, redness, and swelling at the site of the bite. While most mite bites are harmless and resolve on their own, tick bites can sometimes transmit diseases.
Allergic Reactions: Some individuals may develop allergic reactions to proteins found in mite feces or saliva. These reactions can range from mild to severe and may include symptoms such as itching, rash, sneezing, coughing, wheezing, and in severe cases, anaphylaxis.
Dermatitis: Certain species of mites, such as the scabies mite (Sarcoptes scabiei), can burrow into the skin and cause a condition known as scabies. This infestation leads to intense itching, rash, and skin lesions, which can become secondarily infected with bacteria.
Vector-Borne Diseases: Ticks are well-known vectors of various diseases, including Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, tick-borne encephalitis, and others. When ticks feed on the blood of humans or other animals, they can transmit pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, or parasites into the host's bloodstream, leading to illness.
Parasitic Infestations: Some mites, such as Demodex species, can live as commensals on human skin without causing harm. However, in certain conditions, such as immunosuppression, these mites can proliferate and cause skin disorders like demodicosis.
Secondary Infections: Scratching at mite or tick bites can break the skin barrier, increasing the risk of secondary bacterial infections.

Different labs use different software to read the sample. See this post for more details.
One lab may say you have none, another may say you have a lot! - This may be solely due to the software they are using to estimate.
We deem lab specific values using values from the KM method for each specific lab to be the most reliable.
